The Pros and Cons of having an Electric Lawn Mower

What the Future of Landscaping Looks Like

Electric cars are the newest trend that’s taking the world by storm, and it makes you think, are there other products out there that are gas powered that can be switched to electric? Move over Flintstones the Jetsons have arrived with their new electric lawn mower.

PROS

-It’s Quite Quiet

Forget about those noise canceling headphones and listening to music at max volume, electric lawn mowers typically produce up to 75 decibels while a gas lawn mower can produce up to 95. Your Neighbors will thank you later!

-Less Maintenance

Just like electric cars it doesn’t require much maintenance. With Gas lawn mowers you need to change the oil, add fuel stabilizer, replace the spark plugs, clean the air filter, etc.

-Easier on your body

Let’s be real, our bodies aren’t what they used to be. We want lighter phones, lighter bags, lighter cameras, and now lighter lawn mowers. The new EGO power+21 is 67.7 pounds while a gas mower can weigh 90 pounds or more! Because of its light weight it is also easier to maneuver around those tough corners while mowing the lawn.

 -Better for the Environment

Despite its small size gas powered lawn mowers emit a lot of carbon monoxide and dioxide into the atmosphere. 33 Gas lawn mowers produce as much pollution as a car produces all year! So, if you’re looking for a greener alternative the electric mower is the way to go!

CONS

-Shorter Usage Time

Most Electric Lawn mowers last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour long. If you have a large Yard or are constantly doing a lot of Yard work, then a Gas-powered mower might be the better choice for you.

-They are not as powerful

The rotational movement of a gas mowers blade has more torque than an electric power mower. When you have larger projects or yards with hills, gas mowers tend to do a better job and you’ll be able to cut through tougher grass with ease.

-Batteries are expensive

The average battery for an electric mower can cost anywhere from $60-$370. The lifetime of its battery can last up to 5 years which isn’t too bad. However, if you have a larger yard, you’re going to want to purchase another battery to be able to switch them out constantly rather than waiting for it to charge.

What more can you do?

Solar Panels

Electric cars and electric lawn mowers are fantastic for the environment, but those batteries take up a good chunk of power especially if you’re charging every day. The simple solution is solar panels for your house! Why should you consider going solar? Here are some reasons I’ll put down below.

Good for the Environment

We all heard that solar power is good for the environment, but why is it good? Well solar power gets pure energy from the sun. Electricity is sourced from fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. When fossil fuels are burned, they emit harmful gases that cause air pollution and global warming.

Saves you money

On average American households pay anywhere from $1000 to $3000 annually for their electricity bill. What you’ll pay having solar panels will vary on different factors such as energy consumption, local electric rates, etc.  However, there are cases where people who have solar panels pay only a couple hundred dollars a year to almost eliminating that electricity bill completely.

Low Maintenance Cost

Most solar panels only need to be cleaned a couple times a year and they’re known to be quite durable. The Tesla solar roofs are known to be 3x stronger than regular roof tiles and if one tile happens to break, its easily replaceable. Most solar panel manufacturers also provide a 25-year warranty in case something were to happen.
